12 Great Reasons to Start An Online Business

The digital age has brought some amazing innovations. Never in the history of our planet that we had this much access to information and reach as today.

One key invention of this era that changed our lives more than ever before came with the invention of the internet.

With so many people connected online, we are all using the internet for every task imaginable, from sending emails, connecting with our friends, online banking, doctor appointments, work meetings, searching for answers, and most of all, buying things online.

I’ve always drawn to online businesses. I think it’s creating something I am proud of and the freedom it provides. And the money was a good motivator as well.

So today, I thought of inspiring someone to start their own online business. There are so many great reasons to start an online business. However, these are my favorite 12.

Reason 1: The World is Your Audience

If you were to start a brick-and-mortar store right now close to home. What are your biggest hurdles in getting more customers?

If you are providing an excellent service
If your products are top-notch
If your prices are just right
And you provide an excellent aftercare

It would be the geographical distance from your store to them. If people have to drive an hour to get to what you are selling, you are not going to get a ton of people willing to do that no matter how good the product is.

Online business is not limited by any boundary. Your customers come from all over the world.

Reason 2: Your Start-up Cost is Peanuts Compared to All Others

If you or someone you know have opened up a physical store, you know exactly how much it costs.

Most leasing prices start at $5000+ per month. Not to mention all other bills.

The huge upfront costs of starting a brick-and-mortar business and the devastating risks that come with it if you fail are the biggest reasons why most people avoid starting their own business ventures.

To start an online business on the other hand, all you need is:

A Domain
Decent Web Hosting
A Step-by-Step Guide

That’s it!

Reason 3: You Are Open For Business 24/7

Writing this in 2020, how helpful would this be right now?

In the middle of a pandemic that took over the whole world in a blink of an eye, has shut down our lives basically overnight.

It’s not easy being a regular business owner or an employee right now. As more and more businesses get shut down, more and more people are being laid off of their jobs.

Although online entrepreneurs aren’t immune to everything that goes on in the world, a person with an online business has little to worry about, in times like these.

Isn’t that the best reason to start?

Reason 4: Your Income is Secured in 99% of All Circumstances

The biggest reason why your income is secured is that your income most likely comes from multiple products from different brands.

Of course, there will be dips in income if something like a supply chain or a brand you promote gets disrupted.

But even if one form of income gets affected you are not going to be out of a paycheck. Many online businesses use multiple ways to monetize their business.

For Example:

My website promotes a handful of brands, and their traffic sources come from search engines, social media, ads, and other sources.

Reason 5: Set Your Own Income Goals

I’d be lying if I said money didn’t motivate me to go on this path.

When you are working for yourself, you get to decide your worth.

If you think you are worth a certain number, the only person holding you back is from getting it is yourself. What you put in is what you get out in a business.

Reason 6: No More 9 to 5 Grind

Honestly, this one is another big reason for me to be put off from working in a regular job.

It’s not that we don’t like routine. A healthy routine brings order and discipline.

But working in a strict 9 to 5 environment mean:

You can’t go home if you’ve finished your work
You have allocated times for break and lunchtimes
Sticking to a strict timetable
Working in an environment you don’t like
Having to deal with poor personalities in an office

These are some of the reasons why I didn’t want to work in a 9 to 5 job anymore.

Reason 7: Work at a Time That Suits You

This is something I mentioned in the last reason but it deserves its own section.

Time is precious. We have such little time to do the things that matter.

You might not hate your job. But were you ever felt free to take the time off you needed whenever you needed it?

If you could choose the time you start and end your work, that would make your life much more healthy, happy, and productive.

  • You could go to meet your buddies in the evenings that you wish
  • You could schedule appointments for a time when it’s not busy
  • You could join a sports team

And if you are a stay-at-home parent or caregiver. You can actually be working at a time where you are able to do so to contribute to your family finances.

And if you aren’t a morning person, no one will say anything if you wake up at 10.

Reason 8: Even if You Love Your Boss, Being Your Own Boss is Much Better

An online business gets rid of your annoying boss. You don’t have to listen to some manager or a boss telling you how to do the job that you have been doing for years.

I know that not all bosses are evil. Some can truly be a pleasure to work for. But nothing can beat working for yourself.

Pros of being your own boss:

Setting your own schedule
Working on projects you want to do
No eyes watching your every move

Let’s be honest.

Not everyone can be disciplined enough to work on their own. Some people need those eyes that watch over their work.

I also had trouble disciplining myself at the beginning. I had to teach myself that this freedom is not there to be misused. And to keep it I have to work harder than a person who is working at a job.

Working your own business means more responsibility. You have to go through a phase of setting up your business and getting everything running smooth before you can take a breather. And to do that you also have to be mentally tough.

Reason 9: No More Commuting

Not everyone has the luxury of being just within 30 minutes from work.

For some people to get to work, they have to catch more than one form of transport. Maybe that’s a bus and a train or two buses or 3 in some cases.

Or you’re in bumper to bumper traffic, staring at the back of cars in the mornings and evenings.

I remember when I had to do that. I hated it. Driving every morning and evening at peak traffic times is just a waste of your time that you could’ve spent elsewhere.

Most likely that’s you too.

Now imagine not having to worry about catching a bus or driving in traffic to go to work ever again. Wouldn’t that be amazing?

It’s only possible from a work at home business.

Reason 10: Did I Mention, Freedom?

I briefly touched on this reason in my previous entries.

  • Do you love traveling?
  • Would you like to spend more time with your family?
  • Wouldn’t you like it if you had the time to participate in activities that you love?
  • Being able to work from anywhere in the world

I bet you do.

Working on your business means more work for sure. People who are successful will tell you that they put in 10 hour days to get to where they are. But, when you have laid the proper foundations and built-up a brand. You can let go of certain tasks that are unimportant that you don’t like doing.

You do this by outsourcing your work. All entrepreneurs who are successful, focus on the areas that directly improve their business while handing out these unimportant yet must-do tasks to someone else. Saving you even more time.

Our lives are short. We only have a limited amount of time on this planet. Even more, our youth that allows us to be physically and financially able to do the things we love are even shorter.

You won’t feel alive, answering calls and writing at an office desk, driving a vehicle, or doing overtime to earn more money.

A lot of us are doing these jobs, because we have to.

This is your way out.

Reason 11: You Have Built-up an Asset

Of course, I didn’t want to leave this out because it’s something people always forget about.

I’ve heard that if you invest in something and get a 6% return, you’re doing good. I don’t know how true that is, since I haven’t gone on this path yet.

But there are online businesses that have become multimillion-dollar companies.

Bet a majority of them never thought that at the beginning. I mean even if it’s not millions of dollars, having built up a business that’s worth something is a worthy asset than any other return on investment you could do now.

Reason 12: Feel Proud of Your Achievement

An online business achieves success by helping others with solutions to their problems.

If you are in a weight loss for men niche, you are helping a man regain his confidence, helping him get to a healthy weight, avoid physical and health problems he might have had.

If you build up an online business in teaching people how to bake, new tasty recipes, quality items that they can use a lifetime, you are helping people live a full-filling, healthy life away from takeaway junk food.

What if your brand is ethical items that people can use that don’t harm our environment. Teaching people how to be earth-loving people. Recommending them earth-friendly items.

Wouldn’t that inspire you?

So these are my top 12 reasons for starting an online business. If this post touched your soul and inspired you to go out there and build your own website, and to start working from home then I have achieved my goal with this post.
